Barrister / Solicitor Advocate – Employed Civil Practice

Manchester | Hybrid working | Β£85,000+

I'm recruiting experienced barristers and solicitor advocates for employed advocacy opportunities with a Manchester-based law firm. Several appointments are available. The attraction is a substantive civil practice combining court work, written advice and involvement in the preparation and strategy of litigation.

The work

You will undertake advocacy, advise on evidence and prospects and settle documents, working with the lawyers responsible for the underlying claims. The core work includes personal injury, clinical negligence and related costs matters, with the nature and complexity of instructions reflecting your experience.

This requires persuasive oral advocacy and clear written analysis. You should be comfortable identifying the decisive issue in a set of papers, advising on the practical choices and working with the litigation team to prepare the case properly. More experienced applicants may also contribute to the development of junior advocates.

Who I'm keen to hear from

You should be a barrister or solicitor advocate with appropriate practising rights and substantial relevant civil advocacy experience. Around five years' experience is a useful guide, but the depth and range of your practice will matter more than a precise number of years. Solicitor advocates should hold the relevant Higher Rights of Audience.

This could suit a practitioner considering a move into employed practice, or an employed advocate looking for a role with a substantial balance of hearings and advisory work. I can discuss the instructions, support arrangements and expectations with you privately.

Salary and location

The salary starts at Β£85,000, with the package depending on experience. The role has a Manchester base and hybrid working. Court attendance and travel form part of an advocacy position; I can explain the requirements alongside the home and office arrangements before you decide whether to apply.
