Senior Associate / Legal Director β EL/PL
Location: Birmingham
Salary: Up to Β£85,000 + bonus
Hybrid working
A leading law firm is looking to recruit an experienced EL/PL lawyer into its specialist Healthcare team in Birmingham.
The team acts predominantly for NHS Resolution and NHS Trusts, defending non-clinical personal injury claims arising within healthcare settings. This is a senior hire (8+ PQE) into the team and can be considered at either Senior Associate or Legal Director level, depending on experience.
The work is predominantly defendant employers' liability and public liability litigation, with a good proportion of the caseload made up of complex and higher-value Multi-Track claims.
The successful lawyer will manage their own caseload, which can include matters valued in excess of Β£1 million, alongside more unusual claims arising specifically within NHS and healthcare environments.
The work can include:
- High-value and complex EL/PL claims
- Patient assault claims
- Stress at work matters, including bullying and harassment claims
- Claims involving discrimination, human rights and data protection issues
- Fast-Track and Multi-Track litigation
- Complex liability and quantum disputes
- Court advocacy, including Costs and Case Management Conferences and application hearings
There is plenty of variety to the caseload and the healthcare setting means the work can often involve issues you wouldn't necessarily come across within a more traditional casualty team. As this is a senior appointment, there will also be the opportunity to supervise junior members of the team and play a wider role in their development and the continued growth of the Birmingham practice.
What they're looking for
- The team are looking for an experienced defendant lawyer with a strong background in EL/PL litigation.
- You will ideally have experience running your own litigated caseload, dealing with Multi-Track claims and handling more complex or higher-value personal injury matters.
- Previous NHS Resolution or healthcare experience would certainly be useful, but isn't essential. Lawyers coming from a broader defendant casualty background will also be considered where they have strong transferable EL/PL experience.
- The position is particularly well suited to an established Senior Associate, although there is flexibility to consider someone at Legal Director level depending on their experience.
Salary and benefits
- Salary up to Β£85,000 depending on experience
- Performance-related bonus
- 29 days' annual leave plus bank holidays
- Private medical cover
- Enhanced pension with employer matching up to 6%
- Hybrid working
- Senior Associate or Legal Director level
