Payroll Business Partner - £36,925 pa Hours: 37 hours per week

Location: Edinburgh/Hybrid - with up to 50% remote working (2-3 days per week in the office).

Payroll Business Partner to lead our payroll function, alongside another Payroll BP, ensuring our 1000 employees are paid accurately, on time, and in full.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced payroll professional who enjoys leading a team, improving processes, and acting as a trusted advisor on complex payroll matters.

You'll play a key role in ensuring statutory compliance while driving continuous improvement across our payroll systems and services.

About the Role

As Payroll Business Partner, you will lead the day-to-day operation of the payroll service, managing Payroll Officers and overseeing payroll processing from start to finish.

You'll ensure compliance with payroll legislation, manage relationships with HMRC, pension providers and other external bodies, and work collaboratively with Finance, HR and operational managers to deliver an outstanding payroll service.

You'll also take ownership of payroll systems, reporting, policy development and user training, helping to ensure our payroll processes remain efficient, compliant and fit for the future.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end monthly payroll processing for employees.
  • Ensure payroll calculations, statutory payments and deductions are accurate and compliant.
  • Produce payroll reports, reconciliations and statutory returns within required deadlines.
  • Prepare and oversee BACS payment files.
  • Provide expert payroll advice to managers and colleagues.
  • Liaise with HMRC, pension providers and other external organisations.
  • Maintain payroll systems, coordinate software upgrades and testing, and implement legislative changes.
  • Develop and review payroll policies, procedures and guidance.
  • Design and deliver payroll training and support sessions across the organisation.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance payroll processes and systems.

About You

You'll be an experienced payroll professional with a strong understanding of UK payroll legislation and a passion for delivering a high-quality service.

We're looking for someone who has

  • Significant experience managing end-to-end payroll.
  • Experience leading or supervising a payroll team.
  • Strong knowledge of PAYE, National Insurance, pensions, statutory payments and payroll legislation.
  • Experience working with payroll systems and supporting system improvements.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex payroll matters clearly and confidently.
  • Experience building effective relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities while consistently meeting deadlines.
