At Capability Scotland we provide specialist daytime support and occasional 24 hour short break respite services for adults with complex disabilities, promoting independence, inclusion, and wellbeing through personalised care and enriching activities.

We’re looking to recruit a team of Community Living Assistants who bring kindness, resilience, and commitment to delivering high-quality, person-centred care.

  • Provide compassionate, hands-on support to adults with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), complex medical needs, or sensory impairments
  • Assist with personal care, medication, mealtime support, and communication (including non-verbal methods like Makaton, PECs, or assistive tech)
  • Facilitate sensory, social, creative, and community-based activities tailored to individual needs and preferences
  • Work collaboratively with healthcare professionals, families, and a skilled multidisciplinary team
  • Ensure the highest standards of safeguarding, dignity, and respect at all times

Previous experience supporting people with complex needs (desirable). A calm, patient and proactive approach – especially in challenging situations. Good communication and teamwork skills. Willingness to learn, adapt, and grow within a specialist setting. Qualifications in Health & Social Care are a bonus, but not essential – full training is provided.

  • A generous salary of £19,708.92 FTE (£12.60 per hour)

What you need to know:

  • Hours: 9am - 3pm Monday - Friday (with weekend respite hours available, if you have availability to assist with this service), 30 hours per week. Applicants must be able to work this rota pattern. Overtime is available in our Short Break Respite service.
  • Location: Research Avenue North, Edinburgh, EH14 4AP (and out and about in the community)
