About the Team
The International SEO team is responsible for improving SEO performance of logged-out pages across the Canva website. Our mission in SEO is to empower every user in the world to discover Canva. We’re a global team of specialists spanning keyword research, technical SEO, content strategy, outreach, engineering, data analytics, design, and operations. We work across many regions and languages, combining proven frameworks with deep local market expertise.
About the Role
As Canva scales, change continues to be part of our DNA. This will give you the flavour of the type of things you’ll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve. Canva’s SEO is world-class, and we’re looking for a passionate i18n Technical SEO Specialist to join the International SEO team to help scale our next phase of growth across priority international markets. The i18n Technical SEO Specialist will work closely with the i18n Technical SEO Lead and SEO Country Leads across multiple markets. Your role is to maintain the technical health of Canva’s international pages — identifying issues, implementing fixes, and ensuring our global SEO infrastructure is reliable, scalable, and optimised for discovery. This is a primarily execution-focused role with a strong advisory component. You’ll use SEO tools to surface errors and opportunities, provide clear recommendations to Country Leads, and implement changes directly or in collaboration with engineering and platform teams.
What you’ll do
- i18n Technical SEO Support & Execution
- Provide hands‑on technical SEO support to SEO Country Leads across multiple international markets.
- Identify, recommend, and implement technical SEO fixes and improvements aligned with market strategies.
- Maintain the technical health of international pages to support scaling and performance.
- Use SEO tools to surface errors, warnings, and opportunities.
- Investigate and resolve issues such as response status code errors, structured data problems, JS rendering issues, and crawl inefficiencies.
- Ensure fixes are implemented correctly and validated post‑launch.
- Monitor and maintain hreflang implementation, indexation, and crawlability across locales.
- Identify and resolve issues related to duplication, incorrect locale targeting, or indexing inefficiencies.
- Ensure international pages follow established technical SEO best practices.
- Platform & Engineering Collaboration
- Collaborate with engineering and i18n platform teams when technical changes require development support.
- Provide clear context and requirements for technical SEO changes.
- Align with the i18n Technical SEO Lead to ensure consistency with existing processes and standards across markets.
- Tooling, Workflow & Reporting
- Use Jira and other internal tools to manage tickets and track technical SEO work.
- Maintain clear documentation of issues, recommendations, and implementations.
- Proactively support the triaging of all requests coming from SEO Country Leads and local SEO teams — ensuring every task is crystal clear, actionable, and easy to prioritise before it moves forward.
- For requests flowing in the opposite direction — from Central SEO to local SEO teams — ensure everything is crystal clear, actionable, and ready to dispatch with no follow‑up needed.
- Share progress and outcomes with SEO Country Leads and the i18n Technical SEO Lead in a timely and transparent way.
- Performance Monitoring & Debugging
- Monitor performance following technical SEO changes to ensure expected outcomes.
- Support Country Leads with technical insights when investigating performance changes or anomalies.
- Surface issues proactively before they compound across markets.
- Navigating the Evolution of Search & Discovery
- Stay curious about how AI‑powered search and discovery is evolving — including how users find information through platforms like ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Google’s AI Overviews.
- Understand where traditional technical SEO drives value versus where new approaches may be more effective.
- Stay up to date on GEO/AEO evolutions and next‑generation optimisation techniques relevant to technical SEO.
- Be open to experimenting with new technical approaches as the search landscape evolves.
- Share observations and learnings about how technical factors affect discoverability in your markets, contributing to our global understanding of emerging trends.
What we’re looking for
- Core Skills & Experience
- At least 3 years of experience in SEO, with solid hands‑on exposure to technical SEO.
- Strong understanding of core technical SEO concepts: hreflang, indexation, crawlability, site architecture, and structured data.
- Experience identifying and resolving technical issues such as 3xx/4xx errors, structured data errors, JS rendering issues, and crawl inefficiencies.
- Familiarity with SEO tools such as Google Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools, Ahrefs, Botify, Lumar (DeepCrawl), Screaming Frog, or similar.
- Strong English communication skills for collaboration across international and central teams.
- High attention to detail with the ability to follow technical processes and maintain quality standards.
- Strong time management: ability to self‑manage across multiple markets and priorities simultaneously.
- Required Experience
- Experience with large‑scale database‑driven or UGC platforms (marketplace pages, template libraries, user‑generated content at scale).
- Experience with automation, internal tooling, or AI‑assisted technical SEO workflows.
- Familiarity with technically complex, programmatically generated page sets — understanding how site structure, crawl efficiency, and indexation behave at scale.
- Working Style
- Proactive and thorough: You surface issues early and follow through to resolution.
- Comfortable operating in a multi‑market environment while maintaining alignment with central standards.
- Clear communicator who can translate technical findings into actionable recommendations for non‑technical stakeholders.
- Collaborative mindset: You build relationships easily, work well across teams, and contribute positively to team culture.
- Willing to give and receive feedback constructively, always aiming to improve quality and craft.
- Future‑Oriented & Adaptable Mindset
- Curiosity about emerging channels: You’re actively interested in how discovery is evolving — including AI search, LLMs, and new platforms — and you’re eager to learn.
- Comfort with ambiguity: You can experiment with new technical approaches (like structured data for AI‑generated answers) even when best practices are still being established.
- Channel‑agnostic thinking: You understand that "technical SEO" increasingly means "technical discoverability" — across search engines, AI tools, and platforms yet to emerge.
- Data‑driven adaptability: You can objectively assess what’s working and adjust your approach based on performance signals.
- Early adopter energy: You’re the type of person who’s already curious about how technical factors affect Canva’s visibility in new discovery channels, bringing insights rather than waiting for direction.
- Nice‑to‑Haves
- Familiarity with multi‑platform search ecosystems beyond Google (Bing, Naver, Yahoo, Baidu, etc).
- Background working across international markets.
- Business‑level proficiency in a second language relevant to Canva’s priority markets.
What You’ll Learn and How You’ll Develop
- Build deep practical expertise in international technical SEO execution across dozens of markets.
- Develop strong cross‑functional collaboration skills working with SEO, engineering, and platform teams.
- Learn from and be guided by experienced international SEO leads with a track record of building high‑performing local SEO teams.
- Gain exposure to Canva’s global SEO systems and international growth playbooks.
- Grow toward greater ownership and independence — with a clear path into broader technical SEO or specialist roles.
