An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our well-established, supportive team, located in the city centre of Hereford. We have a patient list size of 12,640 and a CQC rating of "Good". We are looking for a GP for 4-6 sessions per week, including participation in an on-call rota, to join our busy and very motivated supportive team.

Main duties of the job

  • The practice follows BMA and a model contract.
  • Sessions will include 4-6 appointments per day, 15-minute phone and face-to-face appointments, a mix of on-the-day booked and pre-booked patients, plus one home visit (AM session only).

About us

  • Cantilupe Surgery is a city centre practice with a branch surgery 2 miles away at Hampton Dene; both premises are modern and purpose-built.
  • Team: 3 GP Partners, 3 salaried GP partners, 1 Registrar, 3 ANPs, 1 Advanced Paramedic, 4 nurses, 3 HCA's and various admin/reception support roles via PCN.
  • Routine surgeries: 15-minute face-to-face appointments, one home visit per day, and designated admin time (max 13 contacts per surgery).
  • Strong training ethos – currently one GP Registrar in practice.
  • Monthly team meetings, significant illness/events meetings, palliative care sessions.
  • Daily coffee-time catch-up.
  • Annual leave: 6 weeks; one week study leave pro-rata.
  • Salary: dependent on experience but competitive.

Job responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality, evidence-based medical care to registered patients during face-to-face, telephone, and online consultations.
  • Manage a variety of acute, chronic, and complex health conditions.
  • Conduct patient consultations, examinations, diagnoses, and treatment planning.
  • Provide appropriate referrals to secondary care and community services as needed.
  • Contribute to clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in the practice's duty doctor rota and on-call schedule (if applicable).
  • Accurately complete patient records using the practice's clinical system (EMIS).
  • Support health promotion, disease prevention, and patient education activities.
  • Engage in regular clinical meetings, CPD, and annual appraisals.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team (including nurses, pharmacists, ANPs, and social prescribers).
  • Support GP colleagues with a flexible work approach to provide that support within the work plan.

Person Specification

  • GMC registered.
  • Fully qualified GP.
  • Previous GP experience.
  • Qualifications GMC registration and inclusion on the GP register.
  • Inclusion on a performers list without restrictions.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Excellent communication, clinical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to providing patient-centred, high-quality care.
  • Experience or interest in teaching, training, or research.
  • Special interest in areas such as women's health, mental health, or chronic disease management.
  • Familiarity with QOF, Enhanced Services, and the NHS Long-Term Plan.
