The Housing Solutions Team at Canterbury City Council are looking for a Level 2 Case Services Officer to join them. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is looking to begin a career in the Housing sector, specifically homelessness. You will be working in a team who advise and support people who find themselves in a homelessness situation, whilst following the guidance from the Homeless Reduction Act 2017.

About this Level 2 Case Services Officer role

Here’s what you’ll be doing:

  • You will be working within the Triage Team, which are the first point contact for our customers.
  • Your role is to deal with the incoming contact we have, either online, over the phone or in person.
  • You will take initial details and confirm eligibility and circumstances of applicants by carrying out initial investigations and contacting third parties to carry out negotiations.
  • You will go on to book appointments for customers who need further assessment with a Housing Solutions Officer.
  • This is a fast‑paced role that will require you to be able to multitask.
  • Priorities can often change with short notice so you will need to be able to demonstrate adaptability and resilience.
  • You will work a rota system, giving you opportunity to carry out varied tasks and time to work on cases.
  • You will be given regular update training.

Working pattern

This is a full‑time role, which is 37 hours per week. You will work Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays. You will need to be able to work from 9am to 5pm. Due to the nature of the role there is sometimes a need to flexibly and stay on to deal with an issue after 5pm but you will receive the time back. This is a fixed‑term contract for 12 months currently.

  • You’ll receive 23 days annual leave which increase with service, plus bank holidays, PLUS 3 given days which are usually used over the Christmas period when our main offices are closed.

  • You will be working with a friendly team who work a hybrid system of time in the office and some home working if appropriate.

Knowledge
  • An interest in homelessness services and housing in general.
  • Working with case management system (we use Huume).
Experience
  • Working with people who are vulnerable or experiencing a period of crisis.
  • Following a process, ensuring each part is completed.
Skills
  • The ability to demonstrate professional curiosity and maintain boundaries.
  • The ability to think creatively to problem‑solve.
  • Able to work with autonomy as well as being a team player.
  • Resilience to work in a fast‑paced environment.
  • The ability to impart difficult information with empathy and support.
Qualifications
  • Good standard of Maths and English at GCSE grade 4 or above or equivalent work‑related experience.

Due to the nature of this role, the successful applicant will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check as part of their pre‑employment clearances.
