We are looking for an Accountant Level 1 (12-month fixed-term maternity cover) to join our team. If you want to work in a cultural and vibrant city whilst also working hybrid from home, this could be the perfect place for you to gain valuable experience. This is an exciting time to be working at Canterbury with major changes due to local government reorganisation.

As an Accountant Level 1 , you will play an important role in supporting the finance team by ensuring accurate financial records, assisting with budget monitoring, and providing essential financial information to help the organisation deliver its services effectively.

We are looking for someone who is:

Proactive and detail-oriented, with strong numerical skills

A good communicator, able to work with colleagues across the organisation

Eager to learn and develop, with a positive attitude toward professional growth

What you\’ll be doing:

Assist with the preparation and maintenance of accurate financial records.

Support the budgeting and forecasting process by gathering and checking data.

Help monitor financial performance and produce routine reports for managers.

Ensure compliance with financial controls and procedures.

Provide day-to-day support to the finance team and respond to queries from internal stakeholders.

Contribute to month-end and year-end processes, including reconciliations and journals.
