About the role
The Student Governance Team, within Academic Registry, plays a vital role in enhancing the student experience and supporting continuous improvement across the University by maintaining clear and transparent policies across key student-facing processes, including Student Complaints, Academic Appeals, Student Conduct, Academic Misconduct, and Fitness to Practise.
We are excited to be recruiting a Student Case Handling Officer to join the Student Governance Team. Student Case Handling Officers are responsible for handling Academic Appeals, advising on all aspects of Student Governance and adhering to statutory and regulatory requests for information. You will be a key contact for Schools and Professional Services. You will manage a large and varied caseload and will be acting as decision maker in line with Procedures, University Regulations and considering evidence.
You will also support the development of procedure-related guidance materials, templates and training. With an in-depth understanding of relevant legal and regulatory frameworks, you will champion best practice across the University and contribute to the continuous improvement of the service.
Who are we looking for?
You will be a degree holder (or equivalent standard) with recent substantial administrative experience within an educational environment preferably Higher Education/Further Education. You will have experience of managing and delivering administrative processes to deadlines, accepting accountability, and taking responsibility for outcomes. Your work will directly support the University in meeting its regulatory responsibilities and upholding the highest standards of integrity and accountability. You will be confident navigating complex and sensitive matters with diplomacy and discretion, and you will have excellent decision-making skills and be able to assess complex legal and regulatory issues, make evidence-based recommendations and take full accountability for your decisions.
You will be highly organised, proactive, and capable of managing a large and varied caseload independently, using initiative and problem-solving skills. You will be capable of meeting strict deadlines without compromising on quality or accuracy.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, enabling you to engage confidently and collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders across the University. This includes professionally and empathetically approaching challenging conversations around outcomes, remedies, and feedback.
