Overview
Maternity Cover – up to 12-month fixed-term contract. We are seeking an enthusiastic, experienced social work professional to join our Social Work team as a Lecturer / Senior Lecturer. You will deliver teaching on our pre-registration courses, supervise students, contribute to curriculum design, and support placements. You will work alongside a committed academic team to ensure high-quality teaching and to develop scholarship in the field of social work.
You will have a strong background in social work practice and a passion for teaching and developing future practitioners. You will be a qualified social worker, registered with Social Work England, and have recent or current experience in statutory or voluntary sector social work practice. You will bring a deep understanding of the complexities and challenges of contemporary social work and be committed to promoting anti-oppressive, anti-discriminatory practice. Ideally, you will also have experience in delivering teaching or training in professional or academic settings.
As a member of our academic team, you will contribute to the design and delivery of high-quality teaching on our undergraduate and postgraduate courses, supervise students on placement, and support their academic and professional development. You will work collaboratively with colleagues across the department and wider university, as well as with external stakeholders and placement providers.
We are particularly interested in applicants with experience or expertise in mental health and/or practice education. Previous experience in a university context delivering social work courses would be advantageous to this role; however, we welcome applications from practitioners who may be new to higher education. Support and mentorship will be provided to help your transition into the team.

- Experience in delivering teaching or training in professional or academic settings is desirable.
- Experience or expertise in mental health and/or practice education is of particular interest.
How will you work
We are committed to supporting flexible methods of working wherever possible. This role is 18.5 hours per week, preferably on a Wednesday to Friday for teaching commitments. Campus attendance will vary across the year but must purposefully align to the service being delivered and to the needs of our students, staff, and stakeholders. It is expected that most of your working time will be spent on campus.
