The Role
The Catering Department is looking to recruit Bar General Assistants to join our current team to support the service delivery in all our catering outlets based on the Canterbury campuses, prominent area of work would be the Bar, working evenings. The catering department has many outlets from coffee shops, food courts and a student bar, the successful candidates will work to an agreed weekly hour on an annualised hours contract (please see section on annualised hours), they will be provided with full on the job training and supported by catering team leaders in their place of work. We are looking to recruit Bar General Assistants to work to work across all sites, the shift below will give you an idea of what we will require based on the business needs:
- 8:00 am start finish time dependant on contracted hours
- 10:00am start finish time dependant on contracted hours
- 12:00pm start finish time dependant on contracted hours
- 17:00/18:00/19:00 start finish time dependant on contracted hours
We are searching for a highly motivated individual with a flexible approach and be able to meet the expectations of providing a consistent and quality service to students, staff and external visitors.
The ideal candidate will be:
- Customer focused
- Delivering a first-class service to students, staff and external clients.
- Working with the Team Leader in any outlet, assisting with Hospitality, Events and formal dinners.
- Willingness to learn new skills and develop as an individual
- Working with the Team Leaders to maximise student experience
- Team player to be consistently working with colleagues to ensure the best service is offered
- Be able to operate point of sale system for cash and card payments

Employment Visa Clarification
According to the UK Government Points Based System, this position does not fulfil the requirements for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker Route application. We offer generous holiday entitlements plus eight bank and public holidays, as well as discretionary days over the Christmas period.
Annualised hours
Annualised hours are a way of spreading the annual hours required to work per year over a number of weeks, we are looking to recruit for a number of 15 hours contracts (480 hours per year) these could be spread out over for example 32 working weeks which would mean working 15 hours per week, which would give the successful candidate 20 weeks off per year. The candidate would receive their salary spread over 12 months. The successful candidates will work to an annualised contract working to an agreed roster of 15 hours per week, working any 5 out of 7 days to an agreed 32 weeks of the year, the weeks will be split to meet the business needs of the catering department. Each successful candidate will be contracted to work their 15 hours each week however we are looking for staff with a flexible approach to working as there will be times when the department may need them to work additional hours at times, these hours will then be taken back at an agreed time throughout the year.
