Canterbury Cathedral is the cathedral of the Archbishop of Canterbury, the leader of the Church of England and symbolic leader of the worldwide Anglican Communion. Located in Canterbury, Kent, it is one of the oldest Christian structures in England and forms part of a World Heritage Site.

We are seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented HR Systems & Payroll Officer to join our team at Canterbury Cathedral. This is a varied and rewarding role responsible for delivering efficient HR administration and accurate payroll processing. The successful candidate will oversee the full employee lifecycle including recruitment, onboarding, inductions and HR systems management whilst supporting managers and staff across the Cathedral.

In addition, you will lead on payroll administration, ensuring the timely and accurate processing of salaries, pensions, benefits, statutory deductions and year-end reporting in line with HMRC regulations. You will act as the main point of contact for payroll and pension queries, prepare financial reports and ensure systems remain compliant and up to date.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for a proactive and confident individual with at least three years' payroll experience, excellent IT skills (particularly Excel, Sage50 Payroll and Bright Payroll), and strong organisational and communication skills. A qualification in accounting, CIPD or CIPP would be advantageous.
