Detailer - Frame and Truss in Canterbury

Our client, a well-established Frame and Truss manufacturer based in Harewood, Christchurch, is seeking an experienced Detailer to join their growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong understanding of residential construction, excellent technical skills, and experience using MiTek software to produce accurate frame and truss designs.

About the Role

As a Frame & Truss Detailer, you will play a key role in delivering accurate and compliant detailing solutions while providing exceptional service to customers, builders, and internal stakeholders. You will be responsible for interpreting architectural and engineering plans, producing detailed frame and truss layouts, and ensuring all designs comply with current New Zealand building standards and industry requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Customer Service
  • Provide exceptional service to both internal and external customers.
  • Proactively assist customers and identify value-added solutions.
  • Liaise with builders, customers, PlaceMakers staff, and team members as required.
  • Maintain effective communication throughout projects and resolve issues promptly.
  • Act as the first or second point of contact for remedial issues, working closely with the Technical Supervisor and Factory Supervisor to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Complete all required reporting, documentation, and costings related to remedial work.
• Detailing
  • Read and interpret architectural, engineering, building, and consent documentation.
  • Complete wall frame detailing and truss detailing as required.
  • Ensure all detailing work is accurate, complete, and fit for manufacture.
  • Identify and communicate any concerns relating to compliance or constructability.
  • Ensure all frame detailing is completed in accordance with NZS 3604:2011 and subsequent amendments.
  • Ensure all truss detailing complies with MiTek and Sapphire software standards and requirements.
• Reporting & Documentation
  • Accurately process and maintain all detailing-related documentation.
  • Ensure project information is current, organised, and readily accessible.
  • Maintain accurate records for reporting and quality assurance purposes.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Previous experience in a Frame & Truss Detailing role (minimum 2 years preferred).
• Strong working knowledge of MiTek 20/20 and MiTek Sapphire software.
• Current understanding of NZ building codes and standards, including NZS 3604.
• Experience reading and interpreting construction documentation.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
• The ability to build effective relationships with customers, builders, contractors, and colleagues.
• A positive, can-do attitude and willingness to support the wider team.
• Strong computer literacy and organisational skills.

Desirable Experience

• Experience working with building products or within the building supply industry.
• Knowledge of residential construction methods and practices.
