Job Description

The Role

An exciting opportunity for a Senior Catastrophe Risk Analyst to join a leading Exposure Management team at one of Lloyd’s largest syndicates. The successful candidate will be delivering cutting edge analytics to stakeholders across the business for the Treaty Property class, which is the largest Nat Cat class within Canopius. S/he will also offer technical leadership and people leadership to risk analysts in the treaty team.

S/he will be using leading proprietary tools, providing technical support and exposure management to underwriters as part of the Reinsurance Exposure Management team. As an analyst, S/he will enjoy a close working relationship with underwriting teams and have a real ability to meaningfully influence the risk selection process. The successful candidate will look to work collaboratively with various internal stakeholders to ensure timely modelling analytics to support risk pricing and wider exposure management goals.

Responsibilities Include:

  1. Mentor and guide junior members of the team to support daily tasks and long-term career development.
  2. Model complex accounts requiring strong technical insurance knowledge.
  3. Active involvement in maintaining relationships with underwriters with the aim of integrating underwriting and exposure management frameworks and goals – this involves confident and timely delivery of analytics and the ability to explain how these analytics can help drive risk selection.
  4. Use Moody’s RMS and various other tools to deliver market leading analysis both on individual account and portfolio basis.
  5. Working closely with underwriters to drive decision making for complex risks that fall outside of scope of vendor models including non-modelled risks.

Skills and Experience

  1. Experience in a Cat Modelling role – Reinsurance experience and RMS experience is required.
  2. Advanced Experience with MS SQL is a strong advantage. Ability to build/design and manipulate queries to improve process.
  3. Highly numerate and logical – strong mathematical/statistical knowledge is required.
  4. Excellent business communication skills – ability to influence, negotiate, and listen.
  5. Ability to manipulate large data sets with strong Excel and SQL skills.
  6. Strong experience using Microsoft Power BI for analytics is desirable.
  7. Familiarity with another programming language such as VBA, .NET, R, Python.
