We are seeking an Assistant Underwriter or Underwriter to join our Credit and Political Risk team. The ideal candidate will have a strong desire to develop their career in Credit & Political Risk insurance sourced from traders, banks, corporates and Public Agencies with a strong interest in Contract Frustration risks. This is an excellent opportunity to work hard and develop underwriting skills within an experienced, supportive Underwriting team.
The successful candidate will contribute to day-to-day underwriting of a portfolio of emerging market risks while building or developing relationships with key brokers. The role also requires proposing underwriting parameters for specific sectors and taking ownership of growth initiatives within the business.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and maintain personal relationships with key brokers and clients.
- Work closely with experienced Underwriters to build and manage a portfolio of diverse risk in line with underwriting strategy.
- Formulate independent opinions on emerging market corporate and sovereign credit.
- Perform country and sector risk analyses in collaboration with team analysts.
- Work with the claims team and internal legal counsel to resolve claims, including workouts and restructurings where necessary.
- Support the business planning and forecasting process or other ad hoc projects where appropriate.
- Strong interest in Credit & Political Risk underwriting and knowledge of key products.
- Familiarity with, aptitude for and willingness to learn macroeconomic and financial concepts.
- Active engagement with market trends and developments.
- Excellent listening, negotiation, and marketing skills.
- Statistical and analytical skills for data interrogation and interpretation.
- Able to build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, brokers and clients.
- Proficient in Excel, Bloomberg, and S&P Capital IQ.
