We are seeking an experienced and forward‑thinking claims professional with strong expertise in managing engineering and/or property claims, ideally within the London market. A relevant insurance qualification, or active progress toward one, is strongly preferred, reflecting our commitment to technical excellence and continuous professional development. This role requires an experienced individual who can confidently lead the adjustment of Engineering and D&F claims from first notification through to settlement, ensuring outcomes that reflect the Canopius Claims Vision: “to continually push the boundaries of customer excellence through an empowered, collaborative and innovative approach to claims; to be the envy of the market.” You will play a key role in shaping claims strategy, influencing stakeholders, and upholding the highest standards of technical and operational performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the Engineering and D&F claims portfolio, demonstrating strong technical leadership and insight.
- Proactively adjust claims within your authority, driving files to timely and effective resolution while delivering an exceptional customer experience.
- Ensure financial provisions are robust, accurate, and aligned with the Canopius reserving philosophy.
- Build strong, collaborative relationships with underwriters, actuaries, and other internal stakeholders to support portfolio performance and strategic decision‑making.
- Oversee delegated claims in line with Canopius’ claims values, providing effective technical governance of TPAs and service providers through structured oversight, peer reviews, and the sharing of best practice.
- Instruct and manage panel lawyers, adjusters, and technical experts to secure optimal outcomes, ensuring cost control and minimising claims leakage.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, supporting innovation and enhancing the claims function’s market‑leading reputation.
Skills and Experience
- Strong technical background in handling engineering and/or property claims, ideally within the London insurance market.
- A relevant insurance qualification (or active progress toward one) is strongly preferred.
- Strong technical understanding of policy coverage, claims strategy, and negotiation.
- Proven ability to interpret and apply legal, regulatory, and territorial considerations across multiple jurisdictions.
- Demonstrated capability to manage complex issues, exercise sound judgement, and escalate appropriately.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and deliver under pressure.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with a proactive and commercially aware mindset.
- Knowledge of the Lloyd’s market is advantageous.
