The Property Direct & Facultative Underwriting Team at Canopius is based in London and writes a diversified portfolio of global property risks. We are looking for an experienced International Property Underwriter to support the development, renewal and underwriting of the Property D&F portfolio, working closely with brokers and internal stakeholders to deliver profitable growth aligned to the Canopius business plan and risk appetite.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical underwriting judgement, commercial acumen, and the ability to build effective broker relationships, while contributing positively to a collaborative and high-performing underwriting team. This role offers the opportunity to be part of an established and well-regarded Property D&F platform, underwriting individual risks end‑to‑end.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute new and renewal underwriting for the Property D&F portfolio in line with Canopius’ underwriting strategy, guidelines and delegated authority.
  • Contribute to the planning and delivery of the Property D&F business plan, including growth, retention and profitability objectives.
  • Price and structure risks in accordance with agreed pricing frameworks, underwriting appetite and risk return expectations.
  • Maintain and develop trusted relationships with intermediary partners to support sustainable flow of quality business.
  • Monitor and communicate key portfolio metrics including production, hit ratios, renewal retention, spread of risk and quality measures.
  • Support effective portfolio and aggregation management, including exposure monitoring and risk diversification.
  • Ensure compliance with external regulatory requirements and internal underwriting, authority and documentation standards.
  • Monitor changes in laws, regulation and market conditions that may impact the Property D&F portfolio.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of underwriting processes, tools and ways of working.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across underwriting, operations, claims and actuarial to deliver portfolio objectives.
Skills And Experience
  • Lloyd’s or company market experience in Property underwriting or broking in a client or broker‑facing role.
  • Technical experience of Property Direct & Facultative underwriting across domestic and/or international markets.
  • Strong understanding of individual risk assessment, pricing and underwriting discipline within D&F business.
  • Working knowledge of catastrophe modelling tools and exposure management at risk and portfolio level.
  • Advanced IT skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate underwriting decisions clearly.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex risk information and data.
  • Well‑developed commercial judgement and problem‑solving capability.
