Overview
Canopius is seeking a knowledgeable Claims Adjuster to join its Casualty Claims team. The portfolio includes General Liability, Product Liability, and Medical Professional Liability across a broad range of industries, offering exposure to diverse claims, sectors, and jurisdictions. The role currently focuses on US claims, with plans to include International General Liability and a small legacy portfolio of UK Employers’ Liability claims.
Key Responsibilities
- Proactively adjust Casualty claims within authority from notification through to settlement.
- Develop and apply a strong understanding of policy coverage, wordings and exclusions.
- Analyse coverage, liability and quantum including complex issues and multi‑jurisdictional exposures.
- Ensure accurate and timely reserving in line with Canopius reserving philosophy.
- Maintain accurate claims files and documentation in line with internal and regulatory standards.
- Build and maintain relationships with brokers, clients and internal stakeholders, including underwriters and actuaries, to deliver consistent, effective claims management.
- Instruct and manage panel lawyers, loss adjusters and external experts to achieve optimal claim outcomes and reduce claims leakage.
- Provide oversight of delegated claims and third‑party administrators, monitoring performance and ensuring claims are managed in accordance with Canopius claims values.
- Escalate complex or high value matters appropriately to senior stakeholders.
- Contribute to claims trends analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, claims manual and regulatory requirements.
- Other ad hoc duties as required.
Skills and Experience
- Experience handling US Casualty claims within the London market.
- Strong understanding of policy coverage, wordings and liability assessment.
- Knowledge of legal and regulatory considerations impacting claims.
- Experience managing external counsel and other experts.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving and decision‑making capability.
- Ability to prioritise workload and manage multiple claims effectively.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
