About the Centre for Trade and Investment Law
The Centre for Trade and Investment Law (CTIL) was created by the Government of India to strengthen expertise within the ministry and other governmental bodies on matters related to international trade and investment law. CTIL operates as a research think tank and advisory body, offering legal and technical guidance on issues connected with the World Trade Organization (WTO), free trade agreements, and broader international economic law matters.
About the Opportunity

The selected candidates will contribute to research and advisory work on trade-related matters under multilateral and bilateral agreements. Areas of work may include:

Eligibility Criteria
Young Professional
- A Master’s degree in economics, law, international law, public policy, data science, cost accounting, or a related field.
- A minimum of 55% marks (or equivalent grade) in both bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
- At least 1 year of post-qualification work experience.
- Preference will be given to candidates with research or professional experience in international trade, international law, investment law, or public policy.
Associate
- A Master’s degree in economics, law, international law, public policy, data science, cost accounting, or a similar discipline.
- A consistent academic record with at least 55% marks at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience, including at least 1 year in a relevant field such as international trade or related areas.
- Experience in fields like economic diplomacy, international law, trade policy, or public policy will be considered an advantage.
Consultant
- A Master’s degree in economics, law, international law, public policy, data science, cost accounting, or related subjects.
- At least 55% marks in both bachelor’s and master’s programmes.
- Minimum 8 years of post-qualification experience, including at least 3 years in relevant areas such as international trade or allied fields.
- Relevant experience in international trade law, economic policy, investment law, or public policy will be preferred.
Additional Considerations
Candidates holding a PhD may be considered for the position of Senior Research Fellow (with PhD). Candidates without a PhD may be considered for Senior Research Fellow (without PhD). Eligible educational backgrounds may include:
- LL.B. (Bachelor of Laws)
- Master’s degree in economics, diplomacy, international relations, public policy, data science, general management, cost accounting, or related areas.
The degree must be obtained from:
- A university ranked within the top 25 of the latest NIRF rankings, or
- A reputed university ranked within the top 100 of recognized global rankings.
For certain positions, prior work experience is not mandatory.
Salary / Remuneration
- Young Professional (without experience) ₹50,000
- Young Professional ₹60,000
- Associate ₹80,000 – ₹1,45,000
- Consultant (with PhD) ₹1,45,000 – ₹2,65,000
- Consultant (without PhD) ₹1,37,500 – ₹2,65,000
