The Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS) is seeking a full-time Senior Associate – Legal & Regulation to join its Bengaluru office. This role involves comprehensive legal and regulatory work, supporting institutional operations, projects, and research.
Key Responsibilities
- Primary Legal Responsibilities
- Provide legal support on various regulatory matters
- Draft, review, and manage contracts
- Offer transactional advice, especially in areas such as:
- Not-for-profit sector
- Procurement and tender processes
- Construction contracts (including PPP models)
- IPR-related transactional work
- Draft institutional processes and legal documentation
- Provide legal advisory services, draft memos, and assist in litigation
- Conduct regulatory due diligence
- Research Responsibilities
- Support legal research related to urban law and policy
- Assist in policy analysis concerning the Higher Education sector
- Draft legal content related to central and state legislations, schemes, and case laws
- Conduct thorough research on emerging legal developments, including digital and blended learning regulations
- Institutional Support
- Contribute to the design and review of internal policies
- Support IIHS's broader academic, training, and operational initiatives
- Engage in interdisciplinary institutional development activities
Reporting Structure
The selected candidate will report to the Chief – Legal & Regulation or a designated official and will work in close coordination with internal teams, students, and external stakeholders.
Candidate Profile
- Essential Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in Law
- Minimum 5 years of relevant legal experience, preferably in the not-for-profit domain
- Desired Skills
- Proficiency in legal drafting, contract law, and regulatory compliance
- Strong communication skills in English (written) and Hindi/Kannada (spoken & written)
- Competence in MS Word and Excel
- Ability to conduct legal research across various domains such as labor laws, taxation, privacy/data protection, etc.
- Experience in litigation support and working with government bodies
- Capacity to work under pressure within multidisciplinary teams
Work Terms
This is an exclusive full-time position, and any conflicting professional engagements (whether paid or voluntary) are not permitted.
Location
The role is based in Bengaluru, with occasional travel to other locations as required.
