Division: Natural Heritage Campaigns (NHC) & Wildlife Crime Control

Organization: Wildlife Trust of India (WTI)

Location: Headquarters, Noida

Duration: 3 months

Stipend: ₹9,000 per month

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth legal research on existing interventions by elephant range states.
  • Perform a comprehensive literature review of global wildlife crime cases, with a special focus on Indian instances where legal measures have supported elephant conservation and human-wildlife coexistence.
  • Analyze legal frameworks and interventions related to elephant conservation and develop a detailed report.
  • Identify ongoing wildlife crime cases involving elephants in coordination with WTI’s lead legal counsel where legal or compensatory actions could be applied.
  • Draft targeted case summaries related to compensation measures.
  • Collaborate with WTI’s forest counsels across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, West Bengal, and Uttarakhand to collect data on relevant cases.
  • Conduct stakeholder coordination and online research to gather information on compensatory policies and practices.
  • Participate in field visits, attend legal meetings, and engage with project teams as needed.
  • Assist with drafting technical and donor reports for ongoing projects.

Eligibility & Required Skills

  • Open to law students enrolled in a 5-year integrated course, 3-year LL.B., or LL.M.
  • Candidate must be available to work on-site at WTI’s Noida office.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective teamwork and independent work capabilities.
  • Ability to solve problems proactively and manage projects to meet deadlines.
