Roles and Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth legal research on existing interventions by elephant range states.
- Perform a comprehensive literature review of global wildlife crime cases, with a special focus on Indian instances where legal measures have supported elephant conservation and human-wildlife coexistence.
- Analyze legal frameworks and interventions related to elephant conservation and develop a detailed report.
- Identify ongoing wildlife crime cases involving elephants in coordination with WTI’s lead legal counsel where legal or compensatory actions could be applied.
- Draft targeted case summaries related to compensation measures.
- Collaborate with WTI’s forest counsels across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, West Bengal, and Uttarakhand to collect data on relevant cases.
- Conduct stakeholder coordination and online research to gather information on compensatory policies and practices.
- Participate in field visits, attend legal meetings, and engage with project teams as needed.
- Assist with drafting technical and donor reports for ongoing projects.
Eligibility & Required Skills
- Open to law students enrolled in a 5-year integrated course, 3-year LL.B., or LL.M.
- Candidate must be available to work on-site at WTI’s Noida office.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Effective teamwork and independent work capabilities.
- Ability to solve problems proactively and manage projects to meet deadlines.
