About the Role
We are looking for a highly experienced Legal Counsel β Direct Tax to lead strategic legal initiatives related to corporate taxation. The ideal candidate should bring robust expertise in direct tax laws, litigation, and tax advisory, with a strong track record of working with major Indian business conglomerates or infrastructure-driven enterprises.
Key Responsibilities
- Offer strategic legal advice on complex direct tax matters, including corporate tax, capital gains, MAT, DDT, and transfer pricing.
- Represent the organization before tax authorities and appellate bodies such as CIT(A) and ITAT.
- Ensure compliance with income tax laws, manage tax audits, assessments, and reassessments.
- Draft and review legal submissions, opinions, appeals, and related tax documentation.
- Track regulatory developments in direct taxation and assess their business impact.
- Collaborate with finance, business, legal, and strategy teams to mitigate tax risks and optimize tax structures.
- Lead tax litigation efforts and oversee case strategies before tax tribunals and courts.
- Coordinate with external law firms and consultants for high-stakes or complex tax cases.
- Maintain organized documentation and timely internal reporting of all ongoing tax matters.
Key Requirements
- LL.B. and/or LL.M. from a reputed institution; additional qualifications in taxation or commerce are preferred.
- 12β18 years of proven experience in direct tax litigation and advisory, ideally within top law firms or large corporations.
- Solid understanding of the Income Tax Act, DTAA, and key judicial rulings.
