- Must present at least seven publications in UGC-listed or peer-reviewed journals and achieve a total research score of 75 (as per Appendix II, Table 2 of the UGC Regulations).

- Must have cleared the UGC NET/CSIR NET/SLET/SET, or hold a Ph.D. as per UGC’s Ph.D. Regulations (2009, 2016, or subsequent amendments).
- Exemptions from NET/SLET/SET may apply for candidates awarded Ph.D. before July 11, 2009, subject to specific criteria, including:
- Regular Ph.D. mode
- External evaluation of the thesis
- Open viva voce
- Two publications from Ph.D. research (at least one in a refereed journal)
- Two presentations at funded academic events
- Alternatively, Ph.D. holders from top 500 global universities (as per QS, THE, or ARWU rankings) are also eligible.
