Team Structure

This role is part of the Global Data Privacy Central Team. It falls under the Unilever Legal Powerhouse, a new team of around 70 professionals being established in Bangalore. It is also part of the larger Unilever Legal Function, a global network of approximately 500 legal experts. The position is co-located with the UniOps Function in Bangalore, a broader team of 1,600 supporting Unilever’s strategic operations through innovation and technology.

Role Purpose

The main responsibility of this role is to serve as the first point of contact for Unilever’s brands and internal teams as they navigate privacy-related processes. The individual will streamline the process of obtaining legal guidance from various markets, allowing local legal teams to focus on higher-risk matters. Key aspects of the role include maintaining transparency with consumers and employees by managing privacy notices and ensuring privacy-related queries are addressed promptly and professionally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting the Markets:
    • Serve as the first contact during the Privacy Risk Assessment (PRA) process.
    • Assist market-based legal teams with Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs) and PRAs.
    • Support operational privacy work such as data mapping.
    • Collaborate with regional Data Protection Advisors, the Central Privacy Legal Team, and business teams on global privacy projects.
    • Report trends in privacy issues and contribute to a more data-informed decision-making process.
  • Protecting Consumers and Employees:
    • Maintain and update global privacy notices.
    • Respond to privacy-related queries directed to Unilever’s central contact points.
    • Manage access control for privacy documentation.
    • Help the central legal team deliver privacy training to employees.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • A degree in law.
  • 1–3 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) in a law firm or corporate legal environment.
  • Prior exposure to data privacy is preferred, though experience in compliance or risk management will also be considered.
  • Strong project coordination and organisational skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
