About Square Circle Clinic
The Square Circle Clinic is a criminal justice initiative under NALSAR University of Law, operating from its offices in New Delhi, Pune, Nagpur, and Hyderabad. The Clinic provides free legal representation to individuals facing the death penalty and undertrials. It also engages in research, public outreach, and advocacy around issues such as the death penalty, forensic science, criminalisation and punishment, torture prevention, legal aid, and the intersection of mental health and the criminal justice system.
About the Role
NALSAR University of Law, through The Square Circle Clinic, is looking to hire three full-time Consultants (Litigation) for its New Delhi office. These are contractual positions for one year, with the possibility of renewal based on the University's discretion. The consultants will primarily handle cases involving individuals sentenced to death.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft legal documents including criminal appeals, writ petitions, review and mercy petitions, rejoinders, and applications.
- Assist and brief senior advocates, advocates-on-record, and criminal law specialists for matters before the Supreme Court, High Courts, and lower courts.
- Conduct legal research and help devise case strategies.
- Travel to prisons across India for in-depth interviews with death row inmates and their families.
- Liaise with prison officials to gather case-related information and documents.
- Support the Clinic’s research and advocacy initiatives.
- Help organize workshops and conferences.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must hold an LLB degree and be enrolled with a State Bar Council.
- Candidates with at least two years of full-time appellate criminal litigation experience will be preferred.
- Knowledge of multiple Indian languages is an advantage but not essential.
Compensation
The monthly salary starts at Rs. 65,000 and may be higher based on experience.
