Canford Law is seeking a Management Accountant to join our growing Finance team in our Manchester Spinningfields office.

This is an exciting opportunity for a newly qualified or part-qualified accountant to play a key role within a growing legal business.

Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, you will take ownership of the month-end management accounts process across multiple entities, support senior stakeholders with meaningful financial reporting, and help drive continuous improvements to systems and processes.

As the business continues to grow, this role offers genuine career progression, including the opportunity to support and develop junior members of the Finance team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts.
  • Post and maintain prepayments and accruals, including revenue accruals relating to Work in Progress (WIP) and retained work.
  • Produce WIP analysis and reporting to support revenue recognition.
  • Process payroll journals and complete associated reconciliations.
  • Prepare variance analysis with clear commentary for senior management.
  • Produce Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet reports for senior stakeholders.
  • Prepare and distribute flash reporting packs and key financial performance reports.
  • Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations across all control accounts.
  • Support the implementation of new finance systems and identify opportunities to improve financial processes.
  • Assist with corporate tax analysis, year-end activities and audit preparation.
  • Work closely with the wider Finance team and support ad hoc financial projects as required.
  • Candidate Requirements
  • ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified, or nearing completion of your qualification.
  • Previous experience preparing monthly management accounts.
  • Previous experience within legal is advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of month-end processes, accruals and prepayments.
  • Experience carrying out balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis.
  • Excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to present financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and experience using finance systems.
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines within a fast-paced environment.
  • A proactive approach with a desire to improve systems, processes and reporting.
  • Previous experience within a professional services or legal environment would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Right to work in the UK.
