Canford Law Scotland Ltd are seeking 2 Credit Hire Paralegals/Claims Handlers to join our Glasgow office. This is a full-time, hybrid role (2 office days per week) offering excellent hands-on experience for candidates wishing to build a career in Credit Hire and Litigation. The successful candidate will support qualified Solicitors and fee earners and the Credit Hire team by handling client enquiries, gathering evidence, and setting up new matters on the case management system. After a period of training, they will be responsible for running their own case load of litigated files.
This is an ideal opportunity to gain on the job experience in a litigation firm for those that have yet to be able to secure a Traineeship. After 1 year in the role the firm would be willing to consider suitable candidates for a Traineeship.
Key Responsibilities- Assist the fee earner/solicitor on a full caseload and support case preparation.
- Make outbound calls to potential clients to obtain instructions and develop leads.
- Handle inbound telephone enquiries in a professional, empathetic and client-focused manner.
- Assess information and evidence provided to assist in determining prospects of success (under supervision).
- Maintain accurate, detailed records of all client interactions and case updates.
- You will work with autonomy on your own caseload from pre-litigation through the entire litigation process.
- You will assist clients and give guidance throughout whilst obtaining all the relevant information required to progress the claim.
- You will manage your daily tasks through our purpose-built case management system making every file touch count, using your skills and knowledge to successfully settle the claim whether this be through negotiation or litigation.
- LLB degree & Diploma in Legal Practice.
- Knowledge of Simple Procedure Claims.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with a confident, professional telephone manner.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy in record keeping and document handling.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Proficiency using computer systems and willingness to learn legal case management software.
- Good problem-solving ability and a professional, client-focused approach.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team and take direction from fee earners and supervisors.
- Previous housing disrepair experience or exposure to housing law matters.
- Previous property or litigation experience in a similar paralegal or legal assistant role.
- Experience using legal case management systems and document management tools.
