Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role based in Stansted Mountfitchet with Canfield Carpentry Ltd. The role involves carrying out day-to-day carpentry duties on new-build and timber frame projects, including first and second fix carpentry, installing timber frames, fitting doors and windows, and completing internal and external finishes to specification. The job holder will interpret drawings and plans, measure and cut materials accurately, and ensure all work meets safety, quality, and building regulation standards. Responsibilities also include maintaining a clean and safe work area, using tools and equipment correctly, and coordinating with site managers, contractors, and other trades to keep projects on schedule. The role may also involve assisting with problem-solving on site, supporting less experienced team members, and completing necessary documentation or site reports as required.
Qualifications
- Strong practical carpentry skills, including first fix, second fix, and finishing work on new-build projects.
- Experience working with timber frame structures, including accurate measuring, cutting, and installation.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, plans, and specifications.
- Good understanding of site health and safety practices and safe use of hand and power tools.
- Proven experience in the construction or housebuilding industry, ideally with new-build developments.
- Strong attention to detail, quality-focused mindset, and ability to meet deadlines.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate with site managers and other trades.
- Relevant carpentry qualification or apprenticeship (e.g., NVQ or equivalent) is preferred.
- Valid CSCS card and full UK driving license are advantageous.
- Willingness to work on site in varying weather conditions and to adhere to company standards and procedures.
