Job Description

I'm currently recruiting on behalf of my client for an experienced Principal / Senior Licensed Ecologist to join an established environmental consultancy.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced ecologist with strong fieldwork and consultancy experience, looking to develop their career and take on greater responsibility across a varied portfolio of projects.

The Role

You'll work across a range of development and infrastructure projects, providing ecological advice from initial assessment through to mitigation and deliveryKey responsibilities will include: Undertaking and managing ecological surveys and assessments.

Preparing Ecological Impact Assessments, Preliminary Ecological Appraisals and ecological reports.

Providing ecological advice to clients, consultants and contractors.

Developing and overseeing ecological mitigation and enhancement measures.

Liaising with clients, planning authorities, regulators and other stakeholders.

Managing projects, programmes and budgets.

Supervising and mentoring junior ecologists.

Supporting protected species licensing and associated mitigation where required.

Contributing to business development and maintaining client relationships.

About You

I'm looking for candidates with: Strong experience working within ecological consultancy.

Relevant experience across protected species and habitat surveys.

Good knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and planning policy.

Experience producing high-quality ecological reports and technical assessments.

Excellent communication and project management skills. The ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. A full UK driving licence.

Relevant professional membership is desirable.

For the Licensed Ecologist / Principal level, experience holding or working towards relevant protected species licences, particularly great crested newt, bats, dormouse or badger, would be advantageous.

For Principal-level candidates, experience managing projects, developing client relationships, mentoring staff and contributing to business development would be particularly valuable.
