Candour Talent are recruiting an Environmental Officer to join their client’s EQHS team in Ebbw Vale.
- Employment Type: Full Time/Permanent

This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and knowledgeable Environmental Officer to join a growing company in Ebbw Vale. Although this role sits within the EQHS team, the successful candidate will have a strong environmental bias and experience working with regulatory requirements. This role is based in a hazardous ‘heavy industry’ environment and comes with an excellent benefits package and ongoing growth opportunities.
The Role:
- Maintain compliance with environmental permits, legislation, and site procedures.
- Prepare and submit accurate and timely environmental reports to regulatory authorities, managing reporting against the permit conditions.
- Stay up to date with environmental laws and regulations applicable to chemical plants.
- Ensure all plant activities align with local, regional, and national environmental standards.
- Act as a liaison with environmental agencies to maintain a thorough understanding of regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular audits to identify and address potential environmental issues and non-compliance.
- Support and maintain the Environmental Management System (EMS) in line with ISO 14001:2015 and similar standards.
- Conduct site inspections, environmental monitoring, and incident investigations.
- Collaborate with internal teams to rectify concerns identified during audits.
- Support compliant waste management activities, including waste classification and duty of care.
- Promote environmental awareness and best practice across site operations.
- Oversee the proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials. Implement waste reduction and recycling programs to minimize environmental impact.
- Responsible for carrying out ISO14001:2015 compliance audits of the process areas and providing environmental awareness to all staff and managers.
- Assist in arranging Trans Frontier Waste Shipments from and to the site.
- Liaise with environmental regulators for EPR and Producer Responsibility Regulation requirements.
- Liaise with external contractors to ensure compliance with ESOS.
- Assist with carrying out risk assessments, internal EH&S training, writing EH&S procedures and auditing for compliance with ISO45001.
- Maintain accurate environmental records and prepare reports using Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Recognised environmental qualification e.g. Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Sustainability or similar.
- Thorough understanding of local, regional, and national environmental regulations and standards.
- Proven experience as an Environmental Officer or in a similar role within a chemical plant or industrial setting. (Minimum 3 years)
- Knowledge of hazardous and non-hazardous waste management practices, including storage, disposal, and recycling.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Pro-active and tenacious.
- Ability to work as part of a team and work autonomously.
- Focused and results-driven.
- Approachable and professional.
Desirable:
- WAMITAB and/or NEBOSH Environmental Certificate or working towards (desirable).
- Experience in recycling, waste management, or hazardous materials environment (desirable).
- Experience working within an ISO 14001-certified system (desirable).
