This critical role will lead the engineering team through the final phases of the data centre-hosted Unix environment to cloud-hosted. As the Platform Engineering Manager, you'll drive the continuous delivery goals while ensuring quality, timeliness, fitness for purpose, and risk management of the products transitioned to a production-ready cloud-based environment.
You'll direct the build, release, and deployment pipelines, bringing together developers and operations staff to strengthen the DevOps culture. This role requires exceptional leadership in activities that may be high profile, particularly complex, or require an exceptional level of professional competence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the platform engineering team, providing strategic direction, hands-on support, and technical oversight migration.
- Act as the primary decision-maker and escalation point for the transformation initiative, ensuring delivery remains aligned with both business goals and technical standards.
- Collaborate with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to align priorities, manage risks, and remove blockers.
- Implement and maintain the CD process to the various life-cycle stage environments in both the DC-hosted and cloud-hosted solutions.
- Drive quality by ensuring latest best practices are adopted in Cloud Services.
- You will oversee the team's day-to-day responsibilities, including:
- Building and maintaining infrastructure as code for Azure & GCP.
- Managing CI/CD pipelines for the modernised applications.
- Provisioning cloud environments to support the migration.
- Monitoring platform performance during and after transition.
- Supporting deployment workflows for the new architecture.
- Manage technical resources for professional services projects for customer environments.
- Manage technical support items requiring platform engineering support.
- Produce coherent dashboards to management describing the team's status, including risk logs, deadlines, customer issues, software quality, priorities, and resource availability.
- Coach and develop team skills and knowledge, identifying gaps and proactively addressing them.
Key Skills and Experience:
- Proven leadership experience in Platform, or Cloud Engineering roles.
- Demonstrable experience in Cloud Architecture and deployment to cloud environments, particularly Microsoft Azure and GCP.
- Demonstrable knowledge of CI/CD and DevOps tools and processes.
- Strong understanding of Unix systems and infrastructure design.
- Kubernetes and CSP managed service offerings (AKS, GKE).
- Terraform for provisioning and IaC approaches.
- CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions).
- Monitoring and observability tools (Grafana, Azure Monitor).
- Network management (virtual private networks, API Gateway, WAF, Traffic Manager).
- Strong people management and mentoring skills.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to track and escalate risk appropriately.
- Strong problem-solving aptitude and planning skills including delegation.
