At Candles and Oud we don’t have a dedicated, in-house HR person, and now we’re ready for one. If you like the idea of properly building that side of a business, rather than slotting into someone else’s system, this might be for you. We make perfume and candles, so we spend our days thinking about scent and small details that make a difference. We’re hoping you’ll bring that same care to how you look after our people.
What you’ll actually be doing:
- Sorting recruitment admin: right-to-work checks, references, the compliance bits that matter
- Keeping our job descriptions and recruitment templates in good shape
- Handling contracts and offer letters for new starters, and making onboarding feel less like paperwork
- Keeping employee records accurate, tidy, and properly looked after
- Being the person staff and managers come to with HR questions
- Pulling together HR correspondence and the odd report
- Supporting our senior management team when they need an extra pair of hands on people matters
What we need from you:
- You’ve worked in HR before, so this isn’t a first job in the field
- CIPD Level 3, or well on your way to it
- You’ve handled confidential records with care and know your way around data protection basics
- You’ve done right-to-work checks and reference admin before
- You can talk to anyone in the business, from the shop floor to senior management, without batting an eyelid
- You don’t need everything laid out for you; you’re comfortable using your own judgement
- You’ve prepared employment contracts before. This one matters to us
Nice to have, not essential:
- You’ve been involved in onboarding beyond just the paperwork: induction, settling people in, that sort of thing
Because you’ll be the only HR person here, you’ll end up close to most parts of the business, not just HR in isolation. That’s the appeal for the right person, and it’s the sort of role you can genuinely grow with as the business grows too. You’ll need the right to work in the UK to apply for this role.
