An opportunity has arisen for a Motor Vehicle Technician to support practical teaching and learning within a professional automotive workshop environment. This role suits an experienced technician who enjoys working hands-on, supporting learners, and maintaining high workshop and safety standards.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare, maintain, and set up tools, equipment, materials, and workshop areas for practical sessions
- Provide technical support and guidance to students, lecturers, and assessors
- Assist with student projects, assessments, and practical demonstrations
- Support teaching sessions when requested
- Maintain high standards of health, safety, and hygiene within workshops
- Contribute to risk assessments, COSHH records, and service logs
- Support stock control, costing, and ordering of materials
- Supervise students during practical work, ensuring safe working practices and appropriate behaviour
- Assist with workshop layout, storage systems, and equipment maintenance
- Support open days, taster sessions, and promotional events
- Work flexibly across campus locations as required
General duties
- Carry out reasonable duties as requested by line management
- Comply with health and safety policies and procedures
- Support safeguarding and promote the welfare of learners
- Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion
- Take annual leave in line with the academic calendar
Essential requirements
- Level 2 qualification in Motor Vehicle or related discipline (or time-served apprenticeship)
- Relevant industry experience
- Good working knowledge of motor vehicle systems and workshop practices
- Ability to prepare workshops efficiently and safely
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with students and staff
- Organised, reliable, and able to work independently or as part of a team
- Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Office
Desirable
- Experience in an education or training environment
- First Aid qualification
- Health and Safety qualification
- Evidence of ongoing CPD and awareness of new automotive technologies
