About the Role
A well established secondary school is seeking an experienced and proactive School HR Advisor to join its team on a permanent basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for an HR professional who enjoys working in a fast paced education environment and is passionate about supporting staff and managers across all aspects of the employee lifecycle.
Working closely with senior leaders, the successful candidate will provide high quality HR advice, ensuring employment legislation, organisational policies and best practice are consistently applied.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day to day HR advice and guidance to managers and staff.
- Support recruitment campaigns, including advertising, shortlisting, interviews and onboarding.
- Manage safer recruitment processes and ensure all pre employment checks are completed.
- Prepare contracts, offer letters and employment documentation.
- Advise managers on absence management, disciplinary, grievance, capability and performance matters.
- Support employee relations cases, attending meetings and taking accurate notes where required.
- Maintain accurate employee records and HR systems, ensuring compliance with GDPR.
- Monitor probation periods and support managers with performance reviews.
- Produce HR reports and workforce data for senior leaders.
- Liaise with payroll to ensure employee changes are processed accurately.
- Support policy implementation and contribute to continuous improvement within the HR function.
- Ensure all HR practices comply with current employment legislation and safeguarding requirements.
Person Specification
Essential
- Previous experience working as an HR Advisor or HR Officer.
- Strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.
- Experience managing a range of employee relations matters.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- High level of professionalism and confidentiality.
- Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Experience maintaining HR records and preparing employment documentation.
Desirable
- Previous HR experience within a school, academy or education setting.
- Knowledge of safer recruitment and safeguarding practices.
- CIPD Level 3 or Level 5 qualification, or working towards one.
- Experience using HR information systems.
