This post attracts a recruitment incentive of £2,000 pro rata (conditions apply). The podiatry service in North East Essex provides clinic and home visits to patients who need NHS podiatry care. The role is part of the integrated podiatry service, which provides care for all ages and a variety of pathologies, including nail surgery, wound care, biomechanics, foot protection service and an MDT foot clinic for diabetic patients. The post holder will participate in the full breadth of the service and should have experience with an NHS caseload evidencing the above areas. We will consider applicants wishing to be considered for a band 5 to 6 development role and are able to offer preceptorship. The service supports staff development from assistant staff to post‑registration staff through preceptorship to expert practice. A car and driving licence are essential as the service operates from Colchester, Clacton and Harwich and requires home visits.
Responsibilities:
- Act as a specialist resource, carrying out assessments, and contributing to the development and delivery of integrated care plans.
- Develop programmes of specialist podiatric activities, weighing options and delegating aspects of care as appropriate.
- Implement specialist aspects of the care plan, potentially acting as care coordinator and reviewing the plan on behalf of the integrated team.
- Support patients with advice, information, persuasion and direction to community resources to encourage self‑management and ongoing independence.
- Provide support, training and advice to patients, parents and carers.
Person Specification:
Essential Experience:
- Proven experience relevant to the care group.
- Professional knowledge and skills acquired through formal training, short courses and experience to degree level or equivalent.
- Relevant post‑qualification training through short courses and/or further study, e.g. biomechanics, diabetes or paediatrics, working towards postgraduate level.
- Evidence of ongoing CPD.
- Specialist skills and techniques relevant to the care group.
Essential Qualification:
- Registered Podiatrist with HCPC with POM‑A annotation.
Essential Knowledge:
- Good theoretical and practical knowledge of a broad range of assessments relevant to the specialised care group.
- Good knowledge of a range of specialist therapeutic interventions relevant to the care group and their comparative outcomes.
- Awareness of national guidance relevant to own specialities, including consent issues and other legal frameworks.
- Understanding of the roles of other professionals.
- Knowledge of standards of record keeping.
- Awareness of strategic direction of ESNEFT.
- Knowledge of current evidence‑based practice.
Desirable:
- Competencies relevant to specialism.
- Experience of managing the work of others.
- Registered member of the Royal College of Podiatry.
- Recognised qualification and further courses and experience relevant to role.
