As the UK’s first purpose-built, new resettlement Prison, opened in 2022, it stands as a unique model for category C prisons and has seamlessly integrated into the local community. Care & Rehabilitation Services (CaRS) boasts a successful track record managing four prisons, a secure training centre, and numerous community contracts across England and Wales. Our core philosophy centres on rehabilitating offenders, equipping them with the necessary skills to reintegrate into society upon release. ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Workshop Instructor to join our dynamic Activities Function at HMP Five Wells. In this role, you will be instrumental in coordinating workshop activities that align with the prison regime, fostering skill development among prisoners, and guiding them towards achieving recognised qualifications. You will be working with individuals from diverse backgrounds with varying needs, ensuring they are treated with dignity and respect while supporting their journey towards rehabilitation within a safe, secure and structured environment.

The ideal candidate will possess a welding qualification and have a genuine passion for education and the ability to inspire and motivate learners from all walks of life to pursue fulfilling careers in the Engineering sector upon release. We are looking for someone who has worked in the industry and has experience in different types of fabrication techniques.
- Essential Skills and Experience
- Hands-on experience in sheet metal fabrication within a workshop environment, including proficiency with a guillotine.
- Practical knowledge of machine shop manufacturing, composites manufacturing, or similar.
- Ability to work with a range of materials, including aluminium, mild steel, and stainless steel.
- Ability to interpret and work from engineering drawings.
- A strong work ethic and the ability to meet deadlines within a demanding workshop setting.
- Certified welding expertise.
