Our client is seeking a Design Team Lead to join the organisation, reporting directly to the Design Manager. This role is critical to the business operations, as the Design team plays a fundamental role in project success. The ideal candidate will have a hands-on approach, with a strong foundation in construction techniques, BS standards, and an in-depth understanding of electrical, fire, and security systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Design team, ensuring smooth operations of inbound Design requests and tracker systems.
- Produce design drawings, specifications, and zone plans with CAD for fire alarms, emergency lighting, access control, CCTV, and other electrical systems.
- Collaborate closely with Account Managers, contractors, and wholesalers to deliver practical and compliant design solutions within tight deadlines.
- Maintain a comprehensive design register and ensure design turnaround within 5 days.
- Conduct site surveys with Account Managers and develop system designs based on client specifications and fire strategies.
- Organize commissioning dates between clients and the Commissioning Team.
- Create innovative, compliant designs that align with industry standards and company products.
Requirements
- Proven experience in a Design Team Lead role within the electrical industry.
- Expertise in electrical design, including fire alarms, emergency lighting, CCTV, and access control systems.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the relevant BS standards and UK/Ireland building regulations.
- Hands-on experience with CAD software to create system layouts and technical drawings.
- Strong time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
- Effective communicator, both within the team and with external stakeholders, able to manage multiple communication channels (email, phone, in-person).
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to create innovative design solutions.
- Ability to work under pressure while maintaining attention to detail and high-quality standards.
- Experience with construction methods, including modern building techniques.
- Familiarity with the product lines or similar systems.
- Ability to manage the end-to-end design process, from initial concept through to commissioning.
- High proficiency in MS Office, CAD, and PDF software packages.
