Cancer Research Horizons is the innovation engine of Cancer Research UK, translating cutting-edge innovations into effective treatments and diagnostics for cancer patients. With exclusive rights to CRUK’s annual investment ofover £300 million in world-class cancer research, we’re a powerful partner in the fight to conquer cancer. We’re currently the second largest oncology out-licensor globally, and to date we’ve played an instrumental role in forming over 60 startup companies, and bringing 11 new cancer drugs to market, with 6 million doses administered to cancer patients all over the world.The discovery and development of new therapeutics specifically for childhood cancers simply hasn\'t been commercially viable – at least, by following the same pathways to market as adult cancer treatment. Rising to the challenge of childhood cancer requires a fundamental change in the way children and young people’s cancer drugs are discovered, developed and brought to market. C-Further is an international consortium, bringing together researchers, clinicians, investors and other partners with a shared commitment to address the issues that cause development of potential new therapeutics for cancers affecting children and young people to stall or never begin.The C-Further Search and Evaluation Executive plays a pivotal role in accelerating the development of new therapies for childhood cancers. This outward-facing position is responsible for identifying and conducting early assessments of innovative therapeutic opportunities. The role involves extensive collaboration with academic institutions, clinicians, industry partners, and charitable organisations to build a robust pipeline of drug discovery projects.The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate detailed knowledge of early drug discovery and the evaluation process. You could be a Search and Evaluation Executive currently, or a Translational or Drug Discovery scout. In return you will be positioned at the centre of a dynamic international childhood cancer research network, with the opportunity to contribute to shaping future treatment strategies for cancers with significant unmet needs.## * Represent C-Further at national and international events to promote visibility of the initiative and build a network of connections with leading players in childhood cancer research* Lead C-Further’s engagement with the childhood cancer research community and beyond, ensuring we are at the cutting edge of drug discovery activity in this space* Act as a trusted point of contact for external innovators, guiding them through the translation and partnership process.* Proactively identify, evaluate, and source high-potential therapeutic opportunities in childhood cancer from academia, clinical networks, charities, and industry.* Lead the Project Sourcing workstream strategy, in collaboration with C-Further scientific leads and therapeutic discovery teams.* Support assessment of proposals, ensuring only the strongest opportunities progress into the C-Further portfolio.* Work closely with colleagues across CRUK, LifeArc, and partner organisations to ensure effective handover and onward development of sourced projects.* Detailed knowledge of early drug discovery and the evaluation process (target selection, validation, technical feasibility etc) across multiple therapeutic modalities, preferentially developed in a drug discovery environment.* A confident communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, representing the initiative at high-profile meetings and conferences, and engaging senior research stakeholders across academia, industry and charities.* Exceptional networking and relationship-building skills – with previous experience of developing collaborations with academics and/or industry.
