Senior Translation Executive

Salary: £68,000 - £72,000 (depending on experience) plus benefits.

Reports to: Associate Director of Search & Evaluation.

Department: Research & Innovation.

Contract: 12 months (Fixed Term Contract).

Hours: Full time, 35 hours per week (flexible‑working; compressed hours considered). Location: Stratford, London – high flexibility with 1-2 days per week in the office, frequent travel across London research institutions.

Overview

Lead a 3‑person team of Translation Managers and Executives supporting the translation of cancer research from leading London institutions (UCL, King's College London, Imperial College London). Design and deliver strategic initiatives to increase regional translation, collaborate across the organisation for UK‑wide strategy, and oversee relationships with academic partners such as Queen Mary University of London.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a 3‑person team.
  • Build relationships with senior oncology researchers and technology transfer offices.
  • Act as primary contact for oncology researchers and identify invention disclosures.
  • Perform due diligence and scientific/commercial evaluation of potential technologies.
  • Propose new development opportunities to internal governance boards.
  • Create and implement project plans, ensure projects are funded and supported with milestones.
  • Protect and manage associated intellectual property.
  • Negotiate and manage contracts in liaison with BD/T and Legal.
  • Collaborate with Business Development to develop marketing materials.

Qualifications and Skills

  • PhD (or equivalent) in a scientific or healthcare discipline, ideally oncology or technology‑related.
  • Expertise in translating discovery research and pre‑clinical science into commercial opportunities, with experience in medical technologies, diagnostics, healthcare technologies and pharmaceuticals.
  • In‑depth experience of patent filing and prosecution across diverse technology areas.
  • Experience negotiating research‑related agreements (MTAs, collaboration agreements, etc.).
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and creative thinking.
  • Experience mentoring and supporting others (direct line management or matrix). Not essential but desirable.
  • Knowledge of commercialization routes for academic research (licensing, spin‑out).
