The Science Engagement Manager is a key role where you will work with fundraising, marketing and communications teams to co-create and deliver compelling stories about Cancer Research UK’s research and its impact. You will use a variety of mediums from written content to presentations, videos and interactive activities.
Examples of previous impactful work include Stand Up to Cancer and the LungVax animation.
We’re looking for someone with excellent science communication skills, creative flair, and the ability to produce accurate, inspiring content that can be communicated confidently to a wide variety of audiences. We value innovative thinking and a passion for connecting with audiences.
Responsibilities- Creating impactful scientific storytelling by distilling complex scientific information into engaging content that inspires diverse audiences to support Cancer Research UK’s mission.
- Producing and delivering presentations, written summaries, video content, interactive activities, and event experiences, including fundraising pitches and supporter event talks.
- Evaluating the impact of content, using insights to inform new concepts and improve ways of working.
- Developing deep knowledge of Cancer Research UK’s research portfolio and organisational priorities, keeping up to date with the latest developments.
- Advising on the most impactful ideas for supporters, providing expert media opinion and ensuring strategic goals are promoted.
- Safeguarding the brand and ensuring accuracy of the charity’s science communications, including reviewing and editing fundraising content for philanthropic and mass-marketing audiences.
- Building close working relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders to understand audience requirements and influence content choices.
- Promoting team skills and expertise to maintain and develop partnerships across the organisation.
- Collaborating with financial support teams to provide due diligence on research options available for donor funding and advising fundraisers on restricted income.
- Excellent scientific knowledge – a higher degree (PhD or MSc) in biomedical or a related field, or significant work experience in a scientific environment.
- A passion for and proven experience delivering bold and creative science communications to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated experience in collaborative project management and managing multiple stakeholders.
- Enthusiasm and ability to keep up to date with the latest developments in cancer research.
- Experience working with charity fundraisers is desirable.
