Overview
Procurement Category Manager (Technology) – responsible for leading procurement activities for the Chief Operating Office (COO) directorate in the Technology department at Cancer Research UK.
Permanent, full‑time (35 hours per week) based in Stratford, London, with the flexibility to work in the office 1‑2 days per week.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage procurement activities for managed services, Saa S, cloud, and infrastructure technology.
- Develop and implement category strategies aligned with organisational goals and procurement best practices.
- Manage end‑to‑end sourcing activities, including tenders, supplier evaluations, and contract negotiations.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to become a trusted partner, ensuring early engagement and value delivery.
- Maintain status updates and reports for key procurement activities and contracts within the technology category.
- Identify opportunities for cost optimisation, innovation, and process improvements.
- Lead contract tendering, renewals, performance reviews, and risk mitigation throughout the contract lifecycle.
- Contribute to procurement transformation initiatives and cross‑functional projects.
- Build high‑functioning, trusting relationships with stakeholders to promote ethical sourcing, sustainability, and value for money.
Qualifications and Experience
- Experienced Technology Category, Strategic Procurement or Supplier Relationship Manager.
- Track record of operating in large, complex organisations and managing the end‑to‑end IT procurement process.
- Commercially minded with a successful history of negotiating and managing high‑value supplier contracts and RFx processes.
- Strong relationship‑building skills across technology and professional services functions, with a focus on internal customers.
- Ability to manage multiple procurement projects simultaneously, balancing pace, quality, governance, and stakeholder expectations.
- Role‑model for procurement, promoting consistency and best practice across the organisation.
- Proactive, pragmatic, solution‑focused approach to resolving challenges and continuously improving procurement practices.
- Curiosity, self‑development mindset and willingness to build knowledge and capability.
