Role Overview

The HR department plays an essential role in engaging and inspiring Cancer Research UK’s people by delivering operational transformation, robust governance, and a high‑quality employee experience as part of our Sustain Strategy and HR Operations Plan.

As a People Analytics & Insight Analyst, you will help make informed, people‑centred decisions by gathering, analysing and reporting on the metrics that underpin our HR activity, ensuring we have accurate, reliable and actionable insights that strengthen our recruitment strategies, enhance employee engagement and support retention across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collecting, validating and consolidating people data from multiple sources to simplify access to accurate HR information.
  • Building, maintaining and optimising Workday reports and Power BI dashboards, ensuring consistent and reliable people metrics.
  • Conducting trend analysis and generating insights, highlighting opportunities, risks and performance drivers across the employee lifecycle.
  • Producing regular and ad‑hoc management information (including Executive Board packs and KPI reports).
  • Translating complex data into clear visualisations, narratives and recommendations for HR leaders and senior stakeholders to drive impact and influence.
  • Supporting the People Analytics & Insights Manager to provide actionable insights and data‑driven recommendations to HR leaders to enhance recruitment strategies, employee engagement and retention efforts.
  • Performing data integrity checks, cleansing and regular audits to improve accuracy and consistency.
  • Collaborating with HR and Systems teams to resolve data issues and embed best practices and data standards.
  • Ensuring full compliance with data privacy, information governance and GDPR requirements.
  • Contributing to improved reporting governance, mandating alignment of definitions, metrics and reporting approaches.
  • Collaborating with the Data Security team to ensure adherence to data privacy regulations and confidentiality of employee data.
  • Applying analytical methods and advanced statistical techniques to identify workforce trends and build predictive models for employee attrition, workforce planning and strategic HR decisions.
  • Blending internal and external data to support forward‑looking insight and scenario planning.
  • Building collaborative relationships across HR, Finance, Technology and organisational leaders to understand data needs and deliver high‑value insights.
  • Improving reporting and analysis governance, enhancing efficiency and providing a joined‑up view of insights.
  • Presenting findings in a clear and compelling way, tailored to technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Supporting stakeholder self‑service through Workday and Power BI dashboards.
  • Maintaining up‑to‑date knowledge of people analytics best practices, visualisation, data modelling and emerging HR technologies.
  • Identifying opportunities to streamline reporting processes and enhance insight delivery.
  • Contributing to the development of an integrated approach to people data and analytics.
  • Championing equality, diversity and inclusion in all analytics and decisions.
  • Actively contributing to the objectives of the People Analytics & Reporting team and the wider mission of Cancer Research UK.
  • Required Skills & Experience
  • Extensive experience as a Data Analyst in large organisations, mandating manipulation, validation and consolidation of complex datasets.
  • Advanced analytical and reporting skills with proficiency in Excel, Power BI and SQL.
  • Experience presenting findings using Power Point and data visualisation tools, delivering actionable recommendations.
  • Strong stakeholder relationships, interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills with for the clear translation of complex data into meaningful insights.
  • Curious, proactive problem‑solver with a continuous improvement mindset for data reporting and governance.
  • Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills, working independently, managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and proactive learning, taking ownership of personal development.
  • Available to start on one month’s notice or less (applicants with longer notice periods that meet criteria are welcome).
  • Experience with HR/people data and Workday reporting is beneficial but not essential.
