Retail store manager

Location: Port Talbot | Hours: Full time 37.5 hours per week | Contract: Fixed‑term contract ending 1st February 2027 | Reports to: Area manager | Department: Trading

About this role

We are looking for a motivating store manager to join Cancer Research UK’s trading team.

You’ll act as an ambassador for Cancer Research UK, inspiring and leading a team to maximise sales and fundraising targets while providing excellent customer and supporter service.

Responsibilities

  • Guide, inspire and engage a team of paid staff and volunteers, including recruitment, retention and development of a diverse shop team.
  • Take ownership of the commercial running of the store, covering display, merchandising, stock management, shop standards and layout, sales and income.
  • Lead by example and deliver exceptional customer and supporter service.
  • Maximise profit through effective cost control and sales.
  • Build relationships with the local community and Cancer Research UK colleagues.
  • Organise and run creative fundraising events to meet targets.
  • Maintain compliance with health and safety, safeguarding, security, administration and HR policies.

Qualifications and skills

  • Experience managing and inspiring a diverse team.
  • Comfort with working within targets and motivating others to achieve them.
  • Ability to multi‑task in a lively environment.
  • Working knowledge of outstanding customer service.
  • Commercial awareness.
  • Knowledge of high‑street fashion retail.
  • Adaptability in changing situations and ability to work independently.
  • Awareness of price, value and worth of items.
  • Ideally experience of retail management.
