Retail Assistant Manager (Assistant Shop Manager) – 6‑month fixed‑term contract, part‑time 20 hours per week, located at Morecambe Shop. Salary £13.25 – £15.46 per hour plus benefits. Reports to the Shop Manager. Closing date: 24 May 23:55. Please note: you must be eligible to work in the UK; Cancer Research UK is not able to offer visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Support the shop manager to guide, inspire and engage a diverse team of paid staff and volunteers.
  • Support the commercial running of the store, including display and merchandising, stock management, maintaining shop standards, store layout, sales and income.
  • Lead by example and provide excellent customer and supporter service.
  • Work alongside the shop manager to achieve targets for donated stock, cash, gift aid, average selling price, sell‑through and stock processing.
  • Create relationships with local community members and Cancer Research UK colleagues.
  • Support the shop manager in the organisation and delivery of creative fundraising events to achieve fundraising targets.
  • Maintain compliance with health and safety, safeguarding, security, administration and HR policies.
  • Deputise for the shop manager in their absence.
  • Perform a varied amount of manual handling and physical activity as required.

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of great customer service.
  • Experience in a lively and vibrant retail environment.
  • Adaptability in changing situations, including the ability to work independently.
  • Commercial awareness.
  • Ability to create relationships and communicate well.
  • Flexibility to meet business needs through a rota‑based schedule.
