Health Improvement Officer Reports to:Health Improvement Manager Hours:35 hours per week Location:40-44 Eglantine Avenue, Belfast Campaign Service/Cause:Health Improvement Remuneration:Β£29,604 - Β£31,872 Overall Purpose of Post The Health Improvement Officer will work closely with the Health Improvement Manager and Skin Cancer Prevention Coordinator to plan, implement and evaluate a range of cancer preventionprogrammes, including training, awareness sessions, skin cancer prevention initiatives, and the development of prevention information and resources. The postholder will also provide intensive Stop Smoking and Stop Vaping support and advice on a one-to-one or group basis, while contributing to the delivery of wider tobacco-related work whereappropriate. Key Responsibilities To contribute to delivery of the strategic Health Improvement cancer prevention, stop smoking / skin cancer prevention work carried out in conjunction with external agencies and partnerships. To facilitate cancer prevention messages to target groups in a variety of relevant settings, with a specific focus on promotion of skin cancer prevention messages to key target groups in NI, e.g. outdoor workers, participants in outdoor sports and leisure activities, children and young people; and provide specialist stop smoking services in youth, workplace, GP and community settings in the Belfast andSouthEasternareas. To utilise specialist skills to assess the clients motivation and readiness to quit tobacco / vapes, recognising and supporting the client to work through all aspects of nicotine addiction. To provide stop smoking interventions in line with the evidence base and to agreed quality standards, including dissemination of NRT. To develop an ongoing programme of support in partnership with the client, evaluating individual programmes and ensuring clients are followed up in line with the monitoring and evaluation protocol. Toprovidebrief opportunistic advice to members of the public as situations permit, i.e. through liaison with other community services, attending community events e.g. health events. Tomaintainclient confidentiality and ensure the security of client identifiable information in line with Cancer Focus and PHA protocols. To review existing resources and liaise with other internal Departments, externalagenciesand partners to develop new services and resources within budgetary constraints. Toassistin the development, planning,implementationand delivery of training for professionals, and development ofappropriate resources. To work with the Health Improvement Manager, Skin Cancer Prevention Coordinator and the Director of Policy, Prevention and Research to lobby for healthy public policy. Toassistin the evaluation of the Health Improvement departments work. To provide regular reports to line management andassistin provision of reports to partners and funders including keepingaccuraterecords of services provided and numbers accessing these. To keepaccuratefinancial records and support the Skin Cancer Prevention Coordinators work to produce regular project budget accounts. To support the implementation of theCancerFocus NI strategic plan. To promote Health Improvement work with relevant professional groups and target audiences. TorepresentCancerFocus NI at relevant internal and external meetings, e.g. skin cancer prevention strategy group and its sub-groups. Toparticipateand attend regular team meetings, updatemeetingsand training. To undertake any other duties as mayreasonably berequired. To promote all aspects ofCancerFocus NI and its work. The post holder may berequiredon some occasions to work flexible and unsocial hours including evening /weekend work. Essential Criteria Qualifications & Experience Having completed a recognised third-level qualification in health, public health, health promotion, youthworkor a related discipline, or currently working towards completion and have at least 1 years experience working in a health-related discipline OR 3 years experience working in a health-related discipline Experience in creating and delivering training and presentations to a wide range of individuals including professionals,studentsand community Experience of liaison with a broad range of professionals. Skills Excellent communication skills An ability to achieveobjectivesand meet agreed deadlines Ability to keepaccuraterecords An ability to work well on own initiative and as part of a team Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel,PowerPointand Outlook. Other Hold a full, current driving license and have access to the use of a car or some otherappropriate formof transport to carry out the duties of the post The ability to work flexible and unsocial hoursif and whenrequired. Desirable Criteria Qualifications & Experience Having completed apost-graduate qualification in Health Promotion / Public Health / Youth Work or related discipline 1yearsexperience of working in a dedicated Health Promotion role,deliveringand evaluating health improvement, healthpromotionor disease prevention programmes Experience managing projects and developing partnerships across statutory, community and voluntary sectors Knowledge and / or experience of delivering public health, health improvement or disease prevention programmes includingcancer prevention, tobacco control, behaviourchangeand skin cancer prevention initiatives To have undertaken arecognisedSpecialist Stop Smoking Training course within the past 3 years Experience of providing Stop Smoking / Health Improvement services in community, workplace,youthor primary care settings Experience ofworking collaboratively with statutory, community and voluntary sectororganisations.
