The Role
We are seeking a highly ambitious and committed Subject Leader of History to join the department. The successful candidate will contribute to the direction for teaching, learning and assessment in History, in-line with the whole-school pedagogical strategy of Learning for Mastery, to set the highest expectations and ensure that all students not only achieve excellent outcomes but flourish within an environment of nurture. Opportunities for departmental and whole school responsibilities will provide excellent experience for a successful candidate and this role comes with the possibility of Head of Year responsibilities.
We take pride in our focus upon developing learning through activities outside of the classroom and making use of the opportunities within London’s cultural offer. Our subject specialists take pride in sharing their passion with our students demonstrating their own ‘love of learning’. We value creative ideas, whereby opportunities to develop new initiatives, in or out of the department, are restricted only by imaginations.
Our School
Canary Wharf College Crossharbour has the highest ambitions for young people in our community on the Isle of Dogs and across the wider borough of Tower Hamlets. We opened in 2016 at the top of one of our primary schools and moved into a new interim purpose-built site with excellent facilities in September 2018. We have a strong educational ethos ‘To Live, Share and Celebrate a Love of Learning’ and we embed this positive ethos by aligning everything that we do with four key principles:
- Curriculum at the Centre: we remain ‘obsessed’ with what we teach our students
- Exemplary Behaviour: we have clear principles informing behaviour and conduct to achieve the highest standards of behaviour for learning
- Exceptional Teaching: we have a clear pedagogical strategy and support every member of staff to be able to deliver consistently excellent teaching
- Valuing every child: we work tirelessly to alleviate barriers to individual student achievement
The school is made up of committed and aspirational staff led by visionary and experienced trustees and senior leaders. Staff development is a key priority, and we boast a unique collaborative approach where, through regular meetings, senior leaders support all staff to take ownership for their own development, both by providing high quality guidance and by promoting teachers to read widely, make research-informed decisions, as well as attend tailored CPD.
