This role will play a key part in logistically and administratively aiding the integration of volunteers into our local teams within the Direct Services Construction team.
Role Overview
Volunteer Leaders liaise with existing and new volunteers and volunteer groups to identify key skills and attributes that support a wide range of construction tasks. They help develop colleague engagement with volunteers and support task managers in delivering the work.
Key Responsibilities
- Recruitment of new volunteers and engagement of volunteering groups through meet & greets, open days and community engagement.
- Integrating new volunteers into regional construction teams; coordinating inductions and training.
- Liaising with Construction Managers and Site Supervisors to identify needs and opportunities.
- Supporting volunteer training, PPE and equipment requirements.
- Supporting the day-to-day scheduling of volunteering support on key construction projects.
- Aligning with our volunteering teams to ensure correct processes.
Your first 6 months in the role
- Identify where volunteers could help teams.
- Review skills and attributes of existing volunteers and recruit new volunteers.
- Facilitate embedding volunteers within teams by training and assisting Task Managers.
- Identify and recruit a Lead Volunteer for the teams.
- Develop volunteering role within Direct Services teams by identifying new opportunities and increasing engagement.
About You – Technical
- Experience leading volunteers.
- Experience delivering work to time, specification and budget.
- Experience in customer service.
- Basic IT skills – comfortable with modern handheld mobile devices and mobile applications.
- Valid UK driving licence.
About You – General
- NVQ Level 3 or BTEC Level 3 in an appropriate subject or equivalent previous experience (desirable but not essential).
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
- Great care in the quality and standard of your work.
- Good communicator with excellent customer service awareness – you will be the face of the Canal & River Trust on our waterways.
- Experience working in a relevant environment – paid work or volunteer, outdoors related, environmental related, customer service etc.
- Can work alone but thrives as part of a team to deliver a common goal.
Travel and Hours
Travel includes visits to the Northwest and Yorkshire & Northeast waterway network; expect 2–3 visits per week with working from home/hub options available. This is a full-time role, 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with flexible working options.
