Working across teams and with the boating community, you'll help deliver lasting change that improves customer experience and strengthens trust.Working Hours & LocationThis is a home based role which follows a 37 hour working week and will be assigned to one of the Trust's key operational hubs. Regular travel across England and Wales as required to competently perform the role. A valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential. Role OverviewYou will drive transformational change across the Trust's boating services, turning customer insight and strategic priorities into practical improvements that enhance customer experience and build trust with the boating community. We welcome candidates from a wide range of backgrounds, including change management, transformation, customer experience, service improvement, programme delivery, public sector reform, utilities, housing, transport and the charity sector. Success in this role will come from your ability to influence stakeholders, lead change and translate customer feedback into meaningful outcomes, rather than from prior boating experience. Key responsibilitiesTranslate high-level strategic transformation goals and consultation findings into clear, actionable operational objectives that directly modernise and improve delivery and enhance customer experience. Design and execute comprehensive change impact assessments and readiness frameworks across multiple departments to identify, map, and proactively mitigate risks of internal and external resistance to change. Lead qualitative and quantitative thematic data analysis on boater feedback, survey inputs, and operational metrics to uncover root causes of friction and pinpoint high-priority areas for improvement. Drive cross-departmental alignment and collaboration, acting as a lead influencer to secure executive and operational buy-in for structural, cultural, and procedural shifts. Establish robust mechanism loops to ensure all transformation designs remain deeply informed by the boating community, championing opportunities for genuine co-production and joint working. Oversee the delivery of post-consultation improvement projects, ensuring changes translate into measurable benefits realisation and a tangible shift from adversarial enforcement to collaborative stewardship. Provide change management reporting to the Boating Transformation Programme Manager and the wider delivery boards to safeguard the Trust’s long-term reputation and community relationships. Displaying the Trust values and behaviours at all times. Ensuring that diversity and inclusion are integrated into all aspects of Trust life and promoting inclusion by challenging behaviour, practices, actions, or decisions that are counter to the objectives of the Trust’s policies and values.Key relationshipsBoating Transformation Programme Manager: Direct line manager, providing strategic direction, programme oversight, and support with the delivery of change initiatives.Transforming Boating Project Planner & Transforming Boating Officer: Working closely to coordinate programme activities, manage dependencies, and ensure successful implementation of agreed changes.Internal Cross-Functional Teams: Collaborating with Licensing, Enforcement, Welfare, Operations, Communications, Legal, and other teams to drive change, embed new ways of working, and realise programme benefits.Citizens Boater Panel & Stakeholder Groups: Engaging with customers and stakeholders to understand feedback, gather insight, and ensure customer experiences inform programme decisions.National Boating Organisations (NBOs) & Local Boating Communities: Building positive relationships to support consultation activity, co-design opportunities, and effective communication of programme outcomes.Senior Leaders & Governance Boards: Providing updates, reporting progress, and supporting informed decision-making through evidence-based recommendations.About YouYou will be an experienced change professional, skilled at turning strategy into practical improvements and delivering transformation in complex environments. You'll combine strong analytical thinking with excellent stakeholder engagement, using data and insight to drive meaningful outcomes. Most importantly, you'll be a collaborative and resilient leader, passionate about building trust, influencing change, and improving customer experiences.Skills & QualificationsTechnical skills:Experience leading complex, multi-year transformation or change programmes within large, matrixed, regulated, or customer-focused organisations, with the ability to translate strategic objectives into sustainable operational outcomes.Proven experience conducting change impact assessments, evaluating organisational readiness, and designing interventions that successfully support the adoption of new processes, behaviours, and ways of working.Strong analytical capability, with experience interpreting qualitative and quantitative data, identifying themes and root causes, and translating insights into practical recommendations and improvement plans.Sound knowledge of recognised change management methodologies and frameworks (such as PROSCI, ADKAR, or Kotter), including experience measuring benefits realisation and embedding long-term change.Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity, manage competing priorities, and operate effectively within complex regulatory, operational, and reputational environments.General skills:Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation, and influencing skills, with a proven ability to build alignment, gain buy-in, and deliver outcomes across multiple teams and functions without direct authority.Demonstrable experience developing and delivering public engagement, consultation, or co-production activity, ensuring the views and experiences of customers, communities, and stakeholders inform decision-making.Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage effectively with colleagues, customers, community groups, and senior stakeholders.Resilient and adaptable, with the ability to work collaboratively in complex environments and support others through periods of change and uncertainty.Contact & ApplicationIf you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us at CRT.recruitment@canalrivertrust.org.uk.
