Welcome to e-STORAGE, a proud member of the Canadian Solar Inc. (NASDAQ: CSIQ) family! We’re leading the way in designing, building, and integrating advanced battery energy storage systems for utility-scale projects. Our mission is to accelerate the world’s renewable energy transition and create a more sustainable, resilient energy future for everyone.

As a Controls Engineer, you'll play a key role in deploying utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across North America, supporting projects from initial design through commissioning and long-term operation. You'll work closely with internal engineering teams, equipment vendors, EPCs, utilities, project developers, and customers to ensure control systems are designed, integrated, and delivered successfully.

What You'll Be Doing as a Controls Engineer:

  • Review project contracts and vendor agreements for controls-related requirements and ensure alignment throughout project execution.
  • Review and validate project design packages, including electrical drawings, data flow diagrams, network designs, signal mappings (analog, Modbus, DNP3), electrical power models, and control narratives.
  • Maintain and organize technical documentation within SharePoint while coordinating documentation flow with vendors and project stakeholders.
  • Develop batch scripts and automation tools to streamline data collection and improve operational efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot network and communications issues within VPN-secured environments.
  • Respond to customer and operator requests regarding system modifications, troubleshooting, and control system enhancements.
  • Support site commissioning activities and provide technical expertise for all controls-related tasks.
  • Ensure all activities are performed in compliance with engineering standards, project requirements, safety protocols, and company policies.

What You'll Bring to The Position:

  • Educational background in Controls Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with industrial control systems within electrical generation, renewable energy, or similar power system environments.
  • Demonstrated experience with industrial communication protocols including Modbus, DNP3, and TCP/IP.
  • Strong understanding of industrial networking, including IP addressing, subnetting, switches, firewalls, VPNs, and network communications.
  • Experience with SCADA systems, plant control systems, or utility-scale automation.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to travel up to 10–15% nationally and internationally to support project sites and vendor facilities.
