Our Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Principal Structural or Geotechnical Engineer for our Civil & Structural Engineering Practice in London, UK. We are looking for experienced consultants with a robust existing client base and a track record of business development experience to help lead and further expand our Civil/Structural or Geotechnical Engineering consulting efforts, as well as contribute to the continued growth of our practice.
Candidates with expertise in structural engineering will have significant experience leading teams to identify the underlying reasons that the design or construction of complex structures or facilities fails to perform as expected; performing field work including site inspections of damaged or incomplete structures; analyzing root causes of structural or building envelope failures; preparing comprehensive technical reports and defending the results in the context of dispute resolution.
Candidates with expertise in geotechnical engineering will have significant experience with inspection, analysis, and evaluation of geotechnical systems (e.g., foundations, retaining walls, excavation support systems, levees, dams, slopes, etc.) and the preparation of repair/mitigation concepts.
You will be responsible for:
- Developing a profitable and dynamic structural or geotechnical engineering consulting practice based in Exponent’s London office
- Identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities and promoting Exponent through typical business contacts
- Recruiting, developing and mentoring staff in the areas of structural or geotechnical engineering, failure analysis and investigation, and both domestic and international dispute resolution
- Promoting Exponent's expertise in civil/structural and geotechnical engineering by meeting with potential clients, presenting at conferences and conducting seminars
- Providing strategic consulting and expert witness work
- Bringing advanced and insightful solutions to clients in your recognized areas of expertise
- Providing project management and project budget oversight
- Developing and mentoring staff in both technical and business areas
You will have the following skills and qualifications:
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field
- Significant business development experience with a proven track record
- An outstanding professional reputation with a robust existing client base
- Significant experience in structural or geotechnical failure analysis, construction claims, dispute resolution, and litigation services
- Proven business development and client management track record, and the ability to attract projects to support full-time staff
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams
- A record of professional papers and presentations and a proven record of dedication to quality and accuracy
- Current chartered engineer (CEng)
- Effective leadership skills with the ability to positively interact with professionals, technical staff, and administrative staff
- Experience providing expert testimony in a dispute resolution setting
